Sharing a common thread with those who love the art of hand embroidery

Though care and trouble may be mine,
As down life's path I roam,
I'll heed them not while still I have
A world of love at home.
J.J. Reynolds, "A World of Love at Home,"
in The New Monthly Belle AssemblĂ©e, October 1844

This embroidery transfer made me think of a dear friend of mine,
who, instead of letting grass grow in her yard,
she kept it all dirt.........and in all of the yard were flowers.
In the early spring through the summer,
there was always something blooming in and around the grounds of
her home.
She passed away several years ago. The other day I drove by
her old house to see if there might be some lingering flowers.........
but no.  The house was still standing
but the yard was overgrown with weeds.
The flowers seemed to have left........
sensing she was no longer there for them to
brighten her day.

I often think about trying to get rid of the grass in my
yard .......to make it all flowers........just as my dear friend had done..........
But no matter how hard I try.......the ground will not
cooperate.
Where I try to grow flowers..........grass grows,
where I try to grow grass.........wild flowers take over.
I think my friend must have spent hour after hour
with her hoe........getting rid of the grass
to make room for the flowers.
How about you?  Do you have a yard full of green soft grass?..........
or full of blossoming flowers?
I would love to hear!

Another pretty towel..........and a design to share with you!

This embroidery design is so pretty that I just have to share the design with you!

I think it is a bird cage perhaps?  Anyhow, the flowers spilling
out of it are just lovely!
I embroidered the cage in black and chose burgundy and purple for the larger flowes
surrounded with gold yellow daisies.  I embroidered the leaves in two different colors of green and the vase I embroidered in a gray blue.
Just using basic outline stitch, lazy daisy stitch for the leaves and French knots for the centers of the flowers.
With this design , anyone can pick any color combination to make it stunning!

This is a vintage pattern
I hope that you can click onto this design and will be able to save and print it
off for your own stitching.

I embroidered this on a dish towel and paired it with a hand crocheted dishcloth with a purple accent stripe.
So ..........if you decide to use this design........
happy stitching everyone!

Starting over is hard.........

especially when you are 80 years old. My dear aunt, who is 80, recently became widowed.......
and decided to sell her home, along with  almost everything else she owned,
then packed up her little dog and moved all the way down here......to Texas
close to where I live.
She has since found her a new little house, and is now starting over.........
picking out furniture, getting her house to look like "home"
Which brings another reason to why I love to do  hand embroidery.
I love to make little gifts for anyone who is " fixing up their nest"

Hand embroidered dishtowels and hand crocheted dishcloths
tucked into a box of dishware is a wonderful
"welcome home" gift I think.

I often put a fabric border or crocheted edge on the bottom
of the dishtowel.......but often I have found
that many prefer the towel with a plain hem finish.
I love the "farmhouse" look this little set has to it........
don't you?
So tell me...........what kinds of things
do  you think would be a great housewarming gift?
I would love to hear!

Winter Roses..........is what I call this coat

I did it! I finally finished hand embroidering the red ladies coat I showed to you
on a post on May 11, 2016.
I had found this pretty coat hanging in a shop
window of a thrift store...and I knew immediately
it should be embroidered......I could already see it
in roses!   I purchased it

and started working off and on here and there........spending quite a few days/nights  that have
turned into weeks .....hand embroidering

Now it is finished and elegant looking with the
embroidered lapels

The embroidery also goes all the way around the collar
and can be seen even when one is walking behind you!

It was pretty before........

now it has a new fresh dressy look,
that I think is lovely!
It is considered a vintage coat since it is from the 1980s.
I am placing it for sale in my shop.
So I am hoping someone will love it enough
to wear it...........everywhere!
Now.........I am off to find my needle for another
project!  Tell me what you are
working on! I would love to hear!

Cement Garden Art

I look forward to sunny days with no chance of rain........
just so that I can work with my latest fascination......
cement!
Now that almost every garden space here on the grounds is full of my tiny
creations.......I have finally started selling them out of my vintage shop .....Yesteryear
and I have also added them to my Etsy shop for sale!

I have made spring and summer flower stones
and have added a painted ladybug rock in the set.

I have just finished a set for fall.......

perfect for the autumn garden!

They are all about 1inch thick so they stand out in any space......
A cute set all together!

The acorn and the pumpkin are both actually round instead of lying flat like the
other stones.  They have all been painted and sealed to last in the garden for months!

I think painted rock bugs also add some whimsy and color to
planting pots and spaces.

Even in the hottest and most plain of garden spaces......
these little cement pieces add color and interest!
If you are interested in the cement stones,
you can find them in my Etsy online shop by clicking
